Description: This vid about the all-singing, all-dancing penguins from Happy Feet was the 1st of three Club Vivid 2007 dancey vids I made this year, and its also my favourite of the three.

"Rock This Party" got some pretty high rotation on radio around the end of 2006 in Australia, sampling a guilty pleasure from my nightclubbing nights in the nineties - "Gonna Make you Sweat/Everybody Dance Now" by C&C Music Factory. And I still don't know what possessed me to make a vid to Happy Feet for it, but Im glad it I did because it turned out far better that even I thought it would. I also don't remember what possessed me to barstardize the MTV logo for my own evil purposes, but I think its going to appear on every dancey type vid I make from now on. ;)

Perhaps crazier was the attempt at lip-sync (or beak-sync in this case) of which there is a lot - the whole song isn't synced but the majority of it is. In a lot of cases the beak is either open or shut, which made life a bit easier & although its not 100% perfect, the physical performances of the penguins singing the lines helped immeasuarbly to sell the illusion they were singing the words. And while Lovelace, Mumble & Ramon share the male parts of the song...only Gloria does the female section, so there was some continuity there.

I hope you had fun watching (and if you were at CV, actually dancing to) the vid!

*additional notes: I had already started cutting this vid before Club Vivid was asking for vids, so I decided to make it available for that...it was actually ready by the end of March. And if you're wondering what on earth possessed me to put my hand up for three dance vids is the fact that somewhere down the track Im planning to have a shindig using movie vids that are "party friendly". So I decided to pull my finger out & cut a few myself.

Fun fun fun! It made me smile. I think you did a good job with the lip-sync. It seems like they are actually singing the song.

Awww thanks Char! I had a hankering to do some more lip/beak sync & this was the perfect opportunity to stretch those unused muscles.

Thanks for commenting! I know Ive been slack on the Master companion piece too & there is a very good reason why. All will be revealed in a week or 2...

I made my kids watch this one on the DVD as soon as I got home. I haven't seen the movie, and the "beak-synch" was so good that I finally just asked my kids if this song was actually in the movie. I was pretty sure it wasn't, but for the space of this vid you really, really believe it was. Nice work. :-)

All my friends children just love this one too (as well as their parents too), its kinda funny to watch their faces while they try to get their head around how the penguins managed to sing this song!

And I love how I had to make you ask your kids if the song was actually in the movie....thats actually quite flattering feedback, thankyou!

Im so pleased it was a pleasurable experience for you, vagabondage! Its such a great dance song & I love hearing people say that they enjoyed dancing while it was playing. Definate feeling of satisfaction there.

Glad you liked the beak-sync too, it pretty much became the focus of the vid while I was cutting it & I honestly didn't think I would get as much as I did in. The actual dancing bits kind of takes a backseat to it.

Thanks for stopping by!

This is too clever ♥. The beak synching is perfect because even if they don't shape their mandibles to form the words, the clips you used have the characters' attitude for how you've used them absolutely spot on. I can't imagine the kind of time it took to make this, but it's so brilliant. I found the song irritating towards the end, but that's not your fault by any stretch.

I always always LOVE how your videos are so clean, tidy and 'pure'.

*cracks whip* I wanna see those other vids you got lined up to be made NOW dammit. *points whip* get viiding now, Hun, you don't wanna make me use this do ya *waggles whip threateningly, but in a cute kinda way*

"The beak synching is perfect because even if they don't shape their mandibles to form the words, the clips you used have the characters' attitude for how you've used them absolutely spot on."

Well I still don't think its perfect...I spot little discrepancies, but Im pleased you think tis perfect Frivster...you are such a sweetheart for saying so! You totally got what I was tring to achieve, its one thing to just have the lips/beaks sync up...but when the body language of the characters totally backs up what they are saying/singing...thats when you know you've captured a little bit of magic.

Also cutaways & reverse angles of the penguins (so you cant properly see their beaks) also managed to help sell the whole thing .

"I can't imagine the kind of time it took to make this, but it's so brilliant. I found the song irritating towards the end, but that's not your fault by any stretch."

I started it in January & was done by the end of March so 2 months...on & off...and even naughtier...I cut it while I was at work! In off-peak periods of course...

And I can see where you are coming from in regards to the end...I almost didn't bother with the last bit, but it was just too funny to use that bit where Lovelace is telling the Killer Whales off in the last spoken piece!

Also I can see how the bits where Gloria sings the main chorus got a little repetitive as they were just cut'n'pastes of that same sequence (with a few minor changes in cutaways). In retrospect I probably should have used the night-time bit twice & her day-time bit twice.

Oh my god, this is insanely fun and AMAZING. Do you know if it's on the DVD set? It'd better be. The lip syncing is spectacular and the editing is like a dream. I can say, out of all the CV vids I've seen so far, this is the one that's really got me bopping in my seat. Boo for both of us not being there. I'm sure it went down a huge treat.

Ah, forgot to say in my last comment that I LOVE your MTV logo too.

Thanks for watching Nicky! Im so pleased to hear you found it a lot of fun, its the vids prime directive. :) From crazywritinfools comment above I believe it is...so you'll get a DVD version. If you have any dramas with it, let me know & I'll just upload the PAL VOBs to Sendspace & you can burn your own DVD.

*blushes* You are far too kind, theres been a lot of great vids so far to come out of this years Club Vivid...& Im sure there will be many more to come out, so it was lovely to hear you to say that!

"Boo for both of us not being there. I'm sure it went down a huge treat."

Well I have secret plans (which are now longer secret) to attend next years Vividcon - if I can manage to get a ticket to it - and all I can say is that you and M better be there, making it part of your honeymoon as well.

I'll be saving the first dance at next years Club Vivid for you!

"Ah, forgot to say in my last comment that I LOVE your MTV logo too."

Its been my pleasure to share this with so many...as Ive said it was ready in March & was almost too much to bear to have to wait until now to release it, but I did get to show it to people at home whenever they came round. And their kids always ate it up!

Flipper sync...now why didn't I think of using that term instead of rambling on about "performances"? Next time I might have to get you to do my write ups!

I also love the fact that people who werent at Club Vivid who watch this feel like getting up & dancing to it....that always brings a smile to my face!

I'm passing this vid to my friend along with the Austin Powers - she still needs to watch Zoolander so she might not 'get' that one :)

I love the music - I love your editing in this vid and just the overall super happy hour feeling going on.

Oh my god. I think this vid may be my new favourite thing ever. I can't even put into words how awesome I think it is. It was so hard for me to stop and leave feedback rather than just watching the vid through again (and again, and again) that it was actually physically uncomfortable. My compulsion to rewatch is just that strong. Screw it, I'm just going to rewatch again and come back to this feedback after.
Right, okay. I was just doing whatever the lying in bed with your laptop equivalent of chair dancing is. \o/ It almost makes me want to watch the film, except I'm pretty sure the film can't possibly live up to the vid. This vid makes me grin so hard. I'm pretty sure I'm not even being that coherent anymore. I don't even care. *flails at you*
*LOOOOOOOVES*

Loved, loved, LOVED this!

Loved the cheeky music video feel contrasted with the innocent, fluffy visuals. Each "What?" just got more and more hilarious.

The lip synching was so seamless that I would have wondered if you'd just taken a long snippet form the movie and called it a vid if I hadn't seen the movie. (Well, and also: I would never think you'd do that, but you get my drift.)

If only the movie hadn't taken itself so seriously, it might have achieved this level of fun.

One of your most ancient writers, a historian named Herodotus, tells of a
thief who was to be executed. As he was taken away he made a bargain with
the king: in one year he would teach the king's favorite horse to sing
hymns. The other prisoners watched the thief singing to the horse and
laughed. "You will not succeed," they told him. "No one can."
To which the thief replied, "I have a year, and who knows what might
happen in that time. The king might die. The horse might die. I might die.
And perhaps the horse will learn to sing.
