Description: After more than a year, the spiritual sequel to The Burly Man is finally done. It’s taken this long not because its more effects heavy than my usual offerings, but because of system reformats, general laziness, gaming distractions and some real life issues thrown in for good measure.
But one good thing about it taking so long is that I’m 100% happy with every single shot & edit which rarely ever happens. I can watch this one over & over without getting bored. Apart from the tedium of having to rebuild 80% of what I had from scratch, it was a whole lot of fun to edit. If I had to describe “T.I.M.L.” it would be action-sarcasm - but if you’ve got a more apt summation of it, I’d love to hear it.
I’ve been wanting to make another Matrix vid for a while now (esp. seeing as it’s been 4 years since Burly Man) & when I heard this song I knew instantly it would be perfect for what I wanted to do. Agent Smith gets the lip-sync-love this time around towards the end of the vid, and it’s actually my favourite part of the video. There are also a lot of shots you don’t normally see in a matrix vid, so that kind of gives it its own identity & sets it apart from the norm.

I love how much it shows your awareness of every single detail of the music. You really have a gift for that, and in a song where the words are so dominant over the music, it would have been easy to let it slip by moment in favor of illustrating what's being said, but you never ever this.
Again, I really love it.

I must have listened to this track for a few months before I actually edited any footage. So yeah, I knew it by heart when I started ripping footage!
I dunno about genius, but I am pleased the ending made you clap! I wonder how many people actually predicted what the ending might have been after my spoiler thing...

Im not a big effect user - and I use them sparingly, they should always serve the storytelling & not the other way round. Everything I need for a vid is usually within the frame itself, Im not one to shout "Behold my effects-penis! Marvel in all its glory!". Plus they can be time-consuming & thats the last thing I want from something that I want for a hobby. That said, I am actually planning to go fairly heavy on effects for the Dexter vid Ive been planning. Talk about hypocrisy!

The pacing is jittery and off in a perfect way.
I do like that you picked this up - a prime example is the "unique snowflake" bit. I was tempted to jump cut or move that shot of Smith, but it just seemed better to leave the static shot it as it was.

The option for download is disabled you say? I checked the option page for it & it says people can download the source video. The link is in the bottom right hand corner of the Vimeo page, if you click on the hyperlink above the embeded video on this page it should take you straight there.
Could you have another look and let me know if it is available to you?

I did the morph with an NLE at work, just a simple transition that Liquid (the NLE I used didn't have) doesn't have. I could have used a dissolve but the morph looked far better. Your husband explained the end shot to you I take it? ;)

The jump cuts were of course awesome. Also, SO much love for the repeated clips and reverse footage around 1:03. Really an incredible amount of synesthesia there. The super-speed on the baby clips also looked great.
A lot of the lyric matches made me giggle. Like "You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake." And, "You are not the contents of your wallet." Literal without being cringe-inducing.
Hee, I love that Neo's fight with Smith was playing on his computer screen. Oddly enough I was able to predict the ending even though I've never *mumble mumble* This is definitely my favorite vid from you, I'm going to be watching it over and over again. :D

The text stuff was all pretty easy - the hardest one would have been bottom line of text in the opening credits, but I found a cool AE template that just begged to be used for it.
I don't think I have any vids without jump cuts in them & I certainly couldn't ignore them with the beat of this song! My wife is already sick of the song, so I have to play it when shes out of earshot now. :(
Really an incredible amount of synesthesia there.
Synesthesia - my new favourite word!

This may be the best fanvid I've ever seen (and I've seen many) simply because it goes beyond great editing and sense of rhythm between the clips, cuts and music; you experiment with the video screens and Neo's computer screen, lip syncing and just about everything else. This is the kind of work that looks professional. Keep it up!

Also glad to hear that you could still follow what was going on without having seen the 3rd film - but then again I do tend to be quite literal with my shot selection. :)
